What is Tomorrowland?
Tomorrowland is the biggest electric music festival in the world. It first took place in 2005 and was organized by Manu Beers, Michiel Beers, and ID&T. The original festival takes place every year in Boom, Belgium. Tomorrowland has now become the most global music festival. It has won the International Dance Music Awards and Best music event for 5 years in a row from 2012-2016. An average of 180000 people attend the festival every year. In 2014, the event was held for two weekends and the number of people who attended it crossed 360000. In 2013, it is believed that a total of two million people waited to buy tickets for the festival. That’s a real big deal!
What would a digital Tomorrowland mean?
Tomorrowland 2020 is going to be different than ever. This time, instead of a particular venue, the most popular music festival is hosted online. Tomorrowland’s co-founder Michiel Beers said in one of his interviews, “Tomorrowland: Around The World is the result of a gigantic team effort of hundreds of people who are working around the clock to create a never-before-seen interactive entertainment experience. Since we started the project and all ideas came together, we immediately felt enormous energy and lots of positivity from everybody involved.”
Going digital will surely broaden the potential to make Tomorrowland more accessible than ever since many people who are not able to travel to attend the festival can now attend it at home. Now, everyone has the opportunity to attend, be a part of the festival at a fraction of the price. Beers said, “For us it’s a bit re-inventing the festival experience, but we truly believe that we can bring the spirit of Tomorrowland and entertainment at the highest level to people and homes across the globe.”
Who will be performing and where?
Digital Tomorrowland promises an interactive experience packed with zest and enthusiasm. Over 60 artists are to perform on the ‘Tomorrowland: Around the World’ lineup including Adam Beyer, Afrojack, David Guetta, Gryffin, Martin Garrix, San Holo, Steve Aoki, Tiësto and Katy Perry.
Tomorrowland will be using eight different stages including Atmosphere, Core, and Elixir. The event will also have a mainstage with the 2020 festival’s theme The Reflection of Love-Chapter 1. Katy’s stage will offer enthralling visuals as she performs hits throughout her catalog and even new songs from her latest album, Smile.
What to expect?
Tomorrowland will provide 3D imaging from within its website itself along with fireworks and laser shows without the use of VR glasses to make the digital event more captivating for the audience. Eight different stages are being set up for the digital festival. The co-founder of Tomorrowland believes that although digital, the festival’s interactive nature and never-been-done-before design is capable of replicating the energy of a true Tomorrowland festival.
When is it happening?
Scheduled for July 25 and 26, which happens to fall on weekends, ‘Tomorrowland: Around The World’ has chances to redeem its name of being one of the grandest music festivals. Tickets for the EDM festival are already out. You can get them on the official Tomorrowland website.
